Topic:Marijuana Legalization and its Impact on the Workplace
The presentation will focus on the legalization of marijuana both for medical and
recreational use around the country and its impact on the work place. We will review
the changing state and federal laws and federal policy and the conflicts between them. The
program will then analyze the resulting litigation we are seeing in workers’ compensation
This presentation will provide information for HR, Risk Managers, and employers on the changing legal landscape with respect to marijuana legalization around the country. The program will address the rights and obligations of employers and employees when dealing with medical and recreational marijuana use. In order to evaluate these situations, we will address the various relevant state and federal laws and policies and review court cases from around the country to see how the courts have ruled on these issues. We will also review how the Courts have addressed the conflict presented between the various state laws legalizing marijuana and federal law that classifies marijuana as a schedule I banned substance.
About the Speaker:
John Kutner defends Fortune 500 companies, insurance carriers, and third-party administrators in various areas of law including employment and workers’ compensation. John is well versed in state and federal marijuana laws and their impact on employers with regard to employer/employee rights, workers’ compensation, and the affect they may have on insurance carriers and third-party administrators. John regularly consults with employers, insurance carriers and attorneys on the evolving issues presented by marijuana legalization and is a frequent presenter on these issues around the country. John is Chair of the Cannabis and Opioid Industry Team at Weber Gallagher.
